Are you looking to up your sewing techniques? Do you want to learn tried and true tailoring techniques to give your garments that perfect finish?  Come and join us in making the Jasika blazer, the newest pattern from design house Closet Case Patterns.

You'll take the blazer from toile, through fitting and alterations, construction, techniques to lining, creating a blazer made to perfectly fit you.  You will have some homework between lessons.  Please see below for a rough course guide.

The course includes the pattern and the tuition, you will need to purchase supplies needed to make this blazer.  A full list is available and will be sent out prior to the course.  Please note that this is an intermediate course and not suitable for complete beginners.

This course runs on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm - 9pm every other week for 6 weeks.  It starts on the 25th September 2019.

The Jasika Blazer is a classic tailored jacket with a semi-fitted shape that will never go out of style. With just the right amount of polish and detail, Jasika is a wardrobe workhorse and a mighty skill builder.

This jacket is fully lined and features a classic notched collar, single button closure, back vent, shoulder pads, welt pockets, gorgeous two-piece sleeves and a flattering shape that skims the curves of the body. Optional details include pocket flaps, topstitching, decorative sleeve cuff buttons and leather or suede elbow patches.

Week 1: An introduction to the pattern, measuring, cutting out and marking up.  This week we will be preparing to make our jacket toiles. Working together we will prepare our pattern pieces, cut out and mark up our fabric for our toile.
Homework: Finish marking up ready to make a toile.

Week 2: Making the muslin.  In week 2 we will begin constructing our toiles, ready for the fitting process. I will walk you through the basic jacket construction ready for next week's fittings.
Homework: Finish off toile construction.

Week 3: Fittings and alterations.  This week we will fit our blazers. We will work as a group to help each other identify fitting issues and remedy our pattern pieces, ready to cut our fashion fabric.
Homework: Buy fabric and supplies!

Week 4: Cutting out and marking up. Week 4 is where we will begin cutting out our blazers, including lining and interfacing. Then we will begin marking them up to begin sewing.
Homework: Finish marking up if necessary.

Week 5: Let's start sewing!  This week is when we begin to construct our blazers. Starting with the pockets, I will walk you through all the tricky bits such as collars, facings and sleeves.
Homework: Carry on sewing your blazer.

Week 6: Lining and finishing.  In this final week, we will address any issues you might have had throughout the week and then finally line our jackets. 
Homework: Wear your tailored blazer with pride!

About your teacher: Claudia Vogt trained as a professional costume maker at Rose Bruford College.  She has since worked in theatre, opera and film making a wide range of historical costumes. Her passion for tailoring led her to the nineteenth century and she is now pursuing a master's degree in Victorian Studies.
